I’m a recent graduate from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Information, where I studied sociotechnical approaches to cybersecurity. In my doctoral research I analyzed the ways in which hackers have developed expertise, technology and strategies for creating computer insecurity in the service of security. My disseration examines games played by hackers in the information security community, commonly known at Capture the Flag competitions, or CTFs.
Past Research:
In the past my research in the field of Information Studies has focused on:
- Surveillance, telemetry and digital rights management in videogame consoles
- E-sports, spectatorship and gender identity
- Facial recognition and body tracking technologies
- Privacy and disclosure policies among Canadian ISPs
- Public knowledge of CCTV technology & policy
